How to Enable and Disable Windows XP’s built-in ZIP Support

XP provides built-in zip support so that you can open compressed files as if they were folders. However, if you use a third-party program, such as WinZip, XP’s built-in zip handling might get in the way. I tried this on my computer and it worked great.

To DISABLE XP’s zip support, perform the following steps:
Select Run from the Start menu.
At the open prompt type:
regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll
Click OK.
Restart the computer.

To ENABLE XP’s zip support, perform the following steps:
Select Run from the Start menu.
At the open prompt type:
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll
Click OK.
Restart the computer
