OK, so let’s build some links (backlinks)! One of the easiest methods of building links for your seo off page optimization is the old school method of visiting one of the major search engines (preferably Google) and searching for your targeted keywords you would like your site to rank high for. Now visit some of these sites that rank well for your keywords and attempt to contact them either via email, contact forms or phone and ask them if they will consider exchanging links with your site.

Be prepared as many of these site owners will not want to link back to you unless your site is relevant and has something of value to offer such as high quality pages with great content. You may need to explain that your current ranking is low but your website team is actively working on several projects to improve website traffic and relevant backlinks over the next few months and we fully intend to improve our rankings in all the major search engines.

You will have a better success rate if you already have a link in place to their site and give them the exact URL to your page linking to their site. Also provide them with the exact link text and URL to use linking back to your site. You will want to mix up this link text (anchor text) and try having different sites link back not only to your home page but other pages deeper within your site structure using different anchor text containing keywords for those specific pages.

Always follow up with a thank you message to the sites that link back to your website.

This method of linking is two way linking or reciprocal linking and is not as highly valued to the search engines as one way links to your site. More on other methods of linking to come in future postings.

Warning One: Be careful not to purchase links in order to improve page ranking. Google’s Statement on Webmaster Tools: “Some site owners attempt to “buy PageRank™” in the form of paid links to their sites. Buying links to improve PageRank violates our quality guidelines”

Warning Two: Stay away from link farms or link exchange systems. These systems used to work in the past but are now considered “Unnatural Linking” by most search engines. If anything make sure the sites you are linking with are relevant to yours and they don’t links going out to banned or questionable sites.

The golf course is calling again…Happy seo linking!!!

Ok I admit it, this is just a test. We just wanted to see if we used Jessica Alba’s name what kind of traffic volume we might get on our site. Does it have anything to do with SEO? probably not. Does Jessica Alba like SEO? She probably doesn’t care. So let’s talk some seo, besides seo is what this site is all about right? Kind of easy to get off track from seo when there are so many other topics like blogging tips and web 2.0 and other fun stuff to blog about. So here are a few tips on seo. Link popularity is a huge factor in off page search engine optimization. Yes, it can be a bit difficult and time consuming, but getting good links is essential to building your website page rankings and getting your key words and phrases to list higher in the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages).

Quality relevant links are key. Don’t waste your time with low quality, high quantity unrelated links as most of us have done in the past. Yes, it worked quiet well in the past but now it will only bring down your rankings. Again, focus on relevant (sites related to your own sites theme) and high quality (sites with good page rankings) sites. You can have a site with 50,000 back links of unrelated low quality sites and it can be out ranked by a site with 10 high quality relevant links.

More on actual link building techniques on future postings but for now, the key is to be very careful and selective in which sites you are ready and willing to link to. Do make exceptions to this rule when the low page ranking sites are providing solid high quality information. So content quality is another factor to consider. Not everything should always be about getting higher page rankings (this is just too closed-minded).

Ok, I know this is posted all over the place on other blogs but it is too good not to post here. Even if it means my blog goes into the supplemental index again. :)

If all seo and website traffic techniques were explained in plain simple English like this. We would all be experts in no time at all. I’m a big believer in the “keep it simple” theory. RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication and is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts.

Please let me know if you enjoyed this as much as I did.

I don’t believe this to be the case now, as most of my files have been found and disallowed by Google and because of my recent site restructure, I currently have 4394 characters in my robots.txt file.

Many people ask me, what exactly is SEO? SEO is the abbreviation for search engine optimization. SEO consists of many techniques, that you apply to your website to help influence the search engines to not only rank your site with a higher ranking, but more importantly to rank the keywords you have carefully chosen that are relevant to your site, to list higher in the search engine listings. The bottom line here is to drive more visitors or traffic to your website, in order to increase your potential long-term customer base and profits. It will not be enough to build a website, and submit it to the search engines, then sit back and wait in hope that visitors will come. Trust me from experience, nobody will come. Building a website is just one of the many jobs you will encounter in working towards a successful and profitable internet business.

If an internet visitor is searching for Nike golf shoes and your website sells Nike golf shoes, you would want your website’s listing to appear somewhere around the first two pages of listings on the major search engines. Currently on Google there are 1,960,000 listings for Nike golf shoes. Studies show, that most web searchers rarely look beyond the first or second page of listings. Therefore, it is critical your site listing is somewhere on the first few pages of the search engines, Otherwise, your site’s listing will become a lost speck of dust in the vast internet highway.

You must find ways to drive customers to your site, if you are going to have any chance in making profits from your internet business. SEO (search engine optimization) is the sum of techniques you apply to your website in order to make this happen. Many factors are involved in SEO. You must do well in all SEO factors, in order to get the highest possible rankings for your website listings.

Currently the three major search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Google is currently considered the “Big Daddy” of the search engines, with millions of searches conducted daily. Google also provides primary and secondary search results for many of the other internet search engines. It would be very beneficial if your website were to rank high on the Google search engine.

In SEO, we are concerned with the natural or organic search results provided by the search engines at no cost to the website owner. This is different from a pay per click campaign that involves bidding and paying for website traffic. Website owners may want to utilize pay per click campaigns along with organic results, or until the organic SEO techniques are providing you with the desired level of traffic. Of course all this will depend on the budget you have allocated towards website promotion.

Here is an incomplete list, a non-comprehensive list of some of the basic factors involved in SEO: onpage optimization which includes, keyword targeting, writing search engine friendly code, title tag and description meta tag, keyword placement, keyword density, relevant content, H1 and H2 header tags. Offpage optimization which includes, link popularity, reciprocal or back links, inbound or one-way links, anchor text with keywords. Other factors to consider are articles, blogs, podcasts, understanding and using robots.txt, submitting your site to the key search engines, converting your visitors into buyers, and many more factors are involved in SEO.

Hopefully this quick overview will provide you with a better understanding of “What is SEO.”
